Did you know? Civics is no longer a subject in most high schools. Instead it was replaced with Government. The two are not the same. No longer do students learn about the rights, responsibilities, and duties of a citizen and
and the parts of government that address citizenship.
With the gutting of civics education in schools over the last several decades, the League is hosting a series of "Happy Hour" events on the theme of Elements for a Functioning Democracy. Events are on 1st and 3rd Mondays, 6:00-7:15 p.m. Topics will vary.
As a Leaguer, perhaps you have a good grasp on how citizenship in our democracy was designed to function. But you may have those in your life who don't. Feel free to invite others to attend the discussion.
