Presented by: League of Women Voters of Hays County

You have been told over and over again to vote in every election - but how do you make an informed decision if you aren't sure what your officials even do? We are here to help. Join us for a high-level overview of city, county, and state government. You'll hear from some key players at the city and county levels, including a current Kyle City Council member and a former Hays CISD School Board Trustee. Find out what the heck they do and how their roles impact you. You'll also get an overview of state-level governance with "the secret life of bills in the Texas Legislature."

Debriefing the 2024 Election with Jennifer Doinoff

Hays County Elections Administrator Jennifer Doinoff met with League members by Zoom on January 20 to provide information on how the 2024 elections went from the perspective of the office responsible.

We had the opportunity to learn about her new role with the Texas Association of County Election Officials (TACEO). Jennifer is the immediate past-president of the TACEO and will now be serving as chair of their legislative committee. TACEO will be supporting legislative efforts to keep Vote Centers as an option for county elections as one of their priorities in the 2025 Texas Legislative Session.

The training for elections in 2024 included for weather-related emergency situations as well as preparations surrounding the November General Election for issues due to heightened political fervor. The detailed planning and coordination with local emergency operations helped the elections administration ensure election security as well as deal with issues such as election judges who unexpectedly could not serve for health reasons.
